Search engines are best used for: finding specific sites or specific information.  They:

  • put information together by scanning contents of servers on the World Wide Web,
  • use keywords,
  • provide many hits,
  • some search engines allow Boolean searching .


Search Tips

 

 

  • Use more than one search engine for your search;
  • Explore each search engine's various search options;
  • Don't assume the first hit is the best one;
  • If you don't find what you are looking for in the first 25 hits, modify your keywords and search again.
