REVISE

The process of proofing and revising your research paper or project text is a crucial step before submitting your work to your teacher for evaluation. You have a responsibility to submit your best work and no one's first draft is his best work. Professional writers are thorough revisers. They are rarely satisfied with the first draft of their work. A student should not claim an ability which an experienced writer would never claim.

A study of the first draft may reveal faults in the original outline structure. Do not hesitate, in such a case, to change the outline. No aspect of the research paper should be considered unchangeable until the final draft has been completed.

Read
over what you have written or watch what you have produced several times.

  1. eliminate or add ideas
  2. change the order of ideas if advisable
  3. revise sentences to improve their structure
  4. check spelling and punctuation
  5. check format for the paper and for citations

Whether you choose to check your draft yourself or work with a fellow student one of the tools listed in the Resource section can help guide your revision process.
