Solar Eclipse Resources from Gale & LoC (inc. Temporary Access to Gale's Science In Context)

There's going to be a total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21st. I don’t know if you’ve heard. ;-)

In response to this major event, Gale has created a temporary page to serve as a quick access point for eclipse resources from three of their databases: Science In Context, Student Resources In Context, and Research In Context. There is no login associated with the page, and Gale will take it down after September 15th.

I embedded the link in the image above and added it to the top of several pages on OSLIS, to be removed on September 16th. You are welcome to add the link to your school or library website and to share it with school or district staff.

You'll notice that for a few weeks, you have access to one database that is not available through our statewide contract with Gale: Science In Context. If you are curious about that database, this is a good way to explore it. Since we already have access to Student Resources In Context and Research In Context, you will be able to find the same eclipse resources by searching within those two databases after Gale's temporary page is removed.

On a related note, the Teaching with the Library of Congress blog has a new post called "Thomas Jefferson and the 1811 Constitution Day Eclipse." It offers access to Jefferson's weather journal in which he chronicled his observations of the 1811 eclipse and access to letters that he wrote to people about the event.

If you have questions, please ask. Enjoy the last bit of summer vacation.
